Harry Nelson Pillsbury Autograph - 1899

Jon's main chess page

Harry Nelson Pillsbury was a virtual unknown when he played in the Hastings tournament in 1895.  The world's top players were competing, including Lasker (world champion), Steinitz (former world champion), Tchigorin, and plenty of others.  In a seismic victory, Pillsbury blasted his way through the field, winning in the last round in a King-and-Pawn ending against Gunsberg that is still considered to be an all-time classic.

This autograph is very rare, and I was fortunate to acquire it.
