A FRENCH POLYCHROME AND GILT-HEIGHTENED CARVED IVORY FIGURAL CHESS SET, LATE 19TH CENTURY

The kings and queens depicting Cupid and Venus versus Bacchus and a Bacchante, the bishops a cupid playing the lute and mandolin versus a satyr with pipes, the knights as Pegasus versus Silenus riding a donkey, the rooks as temples versus cornucopiae, the pawns as cherubs versus satyrs
The king -- 5¼in. (13.5cm.) high; the pawn – 3 3/8 in. (8.5 cm.) high.
