19th-Century Directoire Ivory and Ebony Chess Set

Jon's main chess page

A "Directoire Pattern" ivory and ebony chess set, France, Directoire period, the bishops with domed finials, in a 19th century Indian carved wooden box with foliate decoration, the king 8cm high, the pawn 4.5cm high.

Note: I refer to this type of set as the Directoire pattern to differentiate it from the Régence pattern. Auction houses and some other collectors also refer to this pattern as Régence.
