A very early, tournament-sized, Boxwood and Ebony Staunton Anderssen-style chess set manufactured by the Firm of Jaques of London between 1856 to 1862 The King stands 3.5" tall with 1.6" diameter base. The White King is inscribed "Jaques London" on the rim of of the base. The chessmen are unweighted and the bases are covered in the original green Baize. The summits of the Kingside Rooks and Kingside Knights are incised with a King's crown to designate a Kingside piece. The White King bears the trademark "Jaques London" marking.
